    That's funny, I noticed that myself and thought it was interesting, but didn't quite catch what it said (wish I had a DVR). Definitely authentic, though. Graffiti is as old as mankind itself, even though it's criminalized in today's society. I won't get preachy though. ^_^;

    Yes, there actually has been graffiti recovered from Pompeii. It's pretty much the same sort of stuff we still scribble in bathrooms today, eg "Maximus has a big dick".

      Maybe some can get some stills and post them..?

      there were few of them. I also like to see that scroll the sisterhood had..it looked like part was burnt out or color over.

      I look at things now more on posters and all as later we find out the were clues to the arc the eps's storyline.

      cool stuff

      I remember reading when I took Latin in high school that archeologists had found a great deal of graffiti preserved on Pompeii's walls as a result of being sealed under a layer of lava. It was a major revelation in a lot of ways.

        you mean Ash.. no lava flowed in to Pompeii.(at lease not into the main areas) It was the hot gas and Ash and poison gas from the Volcano that killed them .. I had to study the art in my art history class in college.

    funny thing is that the symbol in the grafitti has been in every episode this season. some people think it's the bad wolf of this season and consider you know who is back maybe she is sending messages again through time and space.

      i just bothered to watch this ep.

      that monarchy loving arse sucking establishment figure RTD has made the doctor into the ultimate establishment figure, a cosmic cop.

      he has taken the doctor 180 DEGREES AWAY FROM WHAT THE CHARACTER IS SUPPOSED TO BE.

      the timelords were pledged not to interfere. the doctor was, quote, 'bored" and stole a tardis, and started interfering aplenty, saving people across time and space.

      initially, in the first few seasons, when he ventured into our relative history, there was all that stupid talk about "this must happen etc." mercifully that was soon dropped, and the doctor got involved all throughout time. often the doctor couldn't make a difference in the outcome or he even caused historical events to occur, good and bad, because of the imperfect nature of his time travel -- either by getting separated from the tardis, or because he couldn't properly control it.

      now, the doctor is in near total control over time and space, and there is some bullshit "order" that the doctor must preserve, leading to all this emotional hand wringing (which is also 180 degrees away from the character) -- "oh he CAN'T save the time lords because it's WRONG" -- since when did the doctor care about that shit?

      SICKENING.

        I thought it was a great episode over all. Though I thought the Celtic/Latin jokes were annoying.

        GORdon is right, however, to note that RTD does have a (possibly subconscious) political agenda for the Doctor that goes against the manner the Doctor has been presented in the past.

          Perhaps he's gone a bid mad after the Time War? A little PTSD weighing heavily on his hearts? You know, it's one thing to be a rogue Time Lord, it's another to be the only one left.

            Possibly-- however, I did like the idea that the timeline where Vesuvius erupted is the alternate timeline-- while the primar timeline is one in which humanity is exterminated by aliens who prevent the explosion.
