Season 4 Episode 4 (Part 1) Spoilers
Sat, April 26, 2008 - 9:10 PMSemi-spoilers...
It was awesome. I totally loved it.
It was so funny when the Doctor thought that Donna was leaving and he got all sentimental. "I was going to take you to this, and to that....oh..you're just stopping by for a bit?" Ha.
And Donna's lovely line, "Hi, Donna Noble, I'll have a salute."
I don't think I've seen any class who with the Sontarans before, so this has been my introduction to them. -

Re: Season 4 Episode 4 (Part 1) Spoilers
Sun, April 27, 2008 - 8:42 AMSontarans were first introduced during the Pertwee era but Tom Baker was the only Doctor with whom they appeared twice (making them one of only three enemies that the fourth Doctor met more than once on screen.
The Judoon armor from season three looked remarkably like the original series Sontaran armor.
Yes, UNIT got a name change because somebody at the UN complained to BBC. -

Re: Season 4 Episode 4 (Part 1) Spoilers
Sun, April 27, 2008 - 4:34 PMThe sets were mostly terrible.
The CGI was better than normal.
But... the direction was AMAZING! The pacing of that episode was probably the best since the relaunch. A ton of fun. The flaws didn't even bother me.

Re: Season 4 Episode 4 (Part 1) Spoilers
Mon, April 28, 2008 - 4:25 AMI had mixed feelings about this ep. The direction was great, and some of the scenes were good (like when Donna told the Doctor she was going home), but in other places the writing was very cringeworthy. The writer doesn't seem to have the slightest clue how guns work and what would actually happened if the bullets were jammed inside the gun when the trigger is pulled.
Added to that, the Doctor came across as a total tit when he was ranting about how he can't stand people with guns being near him. It was hypocritical posturing of the worst kind. (Although, the Doctor has always been kind of jerk, off and on, since his first incarnation, though I get the feeling the writer thinks in this case it makes the Doctor great and moral.)
The alien invasions of earth have become soooo goddamn tedious...
Hopefully the UNIT and military characters will be portrayed in a more competent and light, rather than the parody like buffoons we saw here and Aliens of London. -

Re: Season 4 Episode 4 (Part 1) Spoilers
Mon, April 28, 2008 - 7:32 AMi dunno i'd argue that the whole 'don't trust people with guns' could point out how short sighted the doctor can be at times, how even he can jump to conclusions and judge people unfairly.

Re: cant wait? Season 4 Episode 4 (Part 1)
Sun, April 27, 2008 - 7:06 PMWere the Sontarans always so SHORT? I mean, I saw the Pertwee and Baker eps., but I don't remember Stonn and the others being so diminutive in stature.
I definitely liked seeing U.N.I.T. featured prominently again. Lethbridge-Stewart and Sgt. Benton were a couple of my favorite characters from the Pertwee years, and I'd even like to see Nicholas Courtney or John Levene make a wee cameo if it ever fit well into the plot. I'd also like to see UNIT get into a jurisdictional row with Torchwood.
My favorite moment of the ep (other than the Doctor's premature farewell to Donna ... HILARIOUS!), was the squash backhand into Staal's probic vent.
Donna just keeps getting better and better, and I'm REALLY liking this season. -

Re: cant wait? Season 4 Episode 4 (Part 1)
Mon, April 28, 2008 - 4:13 AMThe Sontarans were always supposed to be shorter, since they came from a planet with stronger gravity. I think this was commented on in the classic episodes, although the casting and camera angles weren't always consistent with it.
