Planet Of The Ood Eps 3 spoiler....

topic posted Sun, April 20, 2008 - 3:22 AM by  CCorsair
Ok first i want to get the jokes out of the way.. now if you have tonights or as of now last nights eps by torrent ot you recored it.. search the tape/dvd/media file for shot of the Ood's head them look at the shot and look for clear shot from the back got it? Eeww.... ok I will say no more....Stop laughing now and movie on...

I need to go back now and see the eps that induced us the Ood I think in the time line it was before this event.. IF so RTD has abit of problem...but them man can't even get his own time line and stories right that would be bad.

I think the store was good it carried on with Donna keeping the doctor from being All that and she is till in wonder of her adventure.

I like the opening shots of the planet.. Nice CG I think the Ship that comes in over head look a bit like a well known ship of Sci-Fi in the UK and US...look at it and Think about it for bit...

Bad the good and the call of cthulhu

What can i say but this was a very good and deep eps and it was good to see a more of a back great story to the Ood even if they look like bunch of cthulhus out of H.P. Lovecraft or a call of cthulhu game(I know the guy who made the game he loves the Ood)

I like to have seen more of where they lived as the plant is a bit cold looking and I would thing more of an underground dwelling for them.

The bad guy here is somewhat of an ass but another greedy sod I think not much to write about but it was good to see what happens to him.

Ok well I don't want to say more I leave all to you guys and I'll come back as the post goes .. Please go easy on the site gages and jokes... WE all know by now that RTD must have a say on how the Ood looked like (if you looked as I said at the start) its bad very bad. we all caught it hear and it was laugh and pun fest for a bit...

Ok your turn all..

CC ..

the Next week Teaser is great ....Martha is Back and So is U.N.I.T. and a very good classic bad guy...

I know it is getting hard in the world but I really would hate to see DW show turn into a political plat form for PeTa and its kind.. I all for human right and all but the extreme type are getting me a bit P.Offed. when some thinks a child should die from aids rather than rat that could help find a cure its just a little over the edge of being sane.

Donna seem a bit clueless on the slavery we still have in the world... Wal-mat just love China ...

      Sad very sad..

Bees are pretty important for the entire world ecosystem since flowering plants-- including lots of the fruits and vegetables we eat, are fertilized due to the activity of bees.

I loved that bit about "who do you think made your clothes". I would have been dissapointed in a modern day Doctor Who touching on an issue of slavery and not making a connection like that. Because, unfortunately, most people either don't know, don't want to know or don't care about the conditions of the workers making their clothes. Yes, it's near impossible to purchase some items in China and anything you purchase made elsewhere likely is made in less than acceptable conditions (to put it nicely), but it can be done.

I'm glad Doctor Who made that point/connection. Sci Fi programming has a long history of making political statements. If you look at classic Trek you will find most of the episodes have a political hint to them. Even if it isn't blatant (like the episode with the two guys who have white on one side of their face and black on the other, only reversed between the two) it's there. The mere presence of an African American woman and a Russian man were huge slaps to the established ideal of the day.

But I seem to have gotten off on a tangent again...oh well.

The Doctor has always been a renegade and outsider, so he's always had the freedom (not always used by the writers) to take a subversive stance to the establishment-- even when he worked with UNIT, there was an underlying contempt for the way UNIT handled things.

This was something that is harder to do in so many other SF programs where the characters are usually affiliated with some branch of government, and so cannot bite the hand that feeds them.

liked this episode quite a bit. the doctor was the doctor but not to pompous or overbearing. Donna was believable but still likable. The story didn't suck and I liked donna's reasoning of why the ood would have brains they carry around. I also liked that the bad folks stayed bad until the end and the PR lady didn't have a change of heart.

looking forward to next week and martha's return.

This was very good eps and the Doctor was not happy he didn't see the Ood as being slaves and or if they should be free.. too much going on as he said . I still looking at the time line was this 200 years after he first met the Ood or less? or before.?

Next weeks is going to be good ... BTW all its a 2 parter ...

      CC
Also I was looking at Imposable planet to see if I could get time line on that apprentice of the Ood and Rose said will you build another TARDIS and The Doctor said they are Grown not Built .Hmmm now that sound interesting...has that been stated before?

wow, i used to watch these within a day of airing in the UK. now, after 2 really bad seasons, and an absolutely horrendous season opener (preceded by a total crap christmas special), i can't be bothered.

          BUSTED?????

Below is GORdon's comment about not hating everything currently happening in Dr. Who ....
NOW HE HAS GIVEN UP ON WATCHING THE SHOW ALL TOGETHER
and is still posting his dislike on show's he hasn't seen.

Get over the fact that your specific TASTE is not the arbiter of what is good.
If you don't like it now to the point of not watching then you've got plenty to post in threads or making threads about
how great certain seasons and episodes used to be.
          cheers.

          HERE WAS THE POST:

          sigh.

that people would say this about me speaks to how they could approve of the majority of what RTD does.

for the umpteenth time, i will remind you of my rampant enthusiasm for the moffat-penned eps (like "blink" and "the girl in the fireplace"), and my overall much greater approval of the first season.

here, i'll act just like you guys --

"whatever i say, you gordon haters are just going to say i hate everything, so why don't you just save your own version of that dim-witted comment and copy/paste it whenever i post something."

            Stop being a GORdon hater.

The only reason I took him off my friend list was because he had a not-safe-for-the-work-place icon for a while.

GORdon's criticisms are, albeit overstated at times, are valid. The problems he identifies with individual episodes or with some of the directions he's taken the show overall are not ones that any serious fan of the program likes.

Does anyone really like storylines that begin with a good dramatic build but end with a deus ex machina? Does anyone really like the same storylines reused over and over? Does anyone really like the same catch phrases repeated over and over again as if that's the building block of a story arc? Sorry, but these are the hallmarks of the RTD-penned episodes. It's when RTD forgets his usual obsessions that he actually writes a good storyline (last season's "Utopia") or when the episode is penned by a writer who has a strong enough voice that they simply won't ape RTD's style (Moffat, Cornell, Sherman, Matt Jones.)

If I find fault with GORdon, it is that he misses some of the better aspects of RTD's contributions to the series.

                Ian pay attention.
You're talking to yourself. Maybe Gordon is your alt.
                Gordon makes some valid points
but if he is going to poke us with his over the top
                wine wine blah blah blah
then we get to poke back....

if he won't temper his comments with any kind of POV beyond his own
then we don't need to temper our response
                we are just playing
                and I'm making that clear

                we love GORdon
                he's hilarious
Now he must die to save both universes...
                ... alonseee

I actually totally agree with Gordon. He said he can't be bothered to watch it right away (not ever). Me either. I am as rabid a Dr. Who fan as you can find anywhere and I just got around to watching Pompeii and Ood. I liked Pompeii quite a bit. Ood, less so, but I did still like it. But I agree that the last few seasons have been so unimpressive that I am significantly less excited.

first episode was cutesy but had great moments
donna came together and we all know
        the bump

episodes 2 and 3 out and out rocked.
they were great. Minor bits of not great but over all
        they were majorly good.

It bothered me though .... (spoiler below for OOD)

it seemed rediculous that they said
they cut off the ood's brains
        and stuck on the tanslatators
it seemed so unnecessary when all they
had to say was the imprissoned their brains inside the
        translators.
        onward.
        RR.

It might be an allegory for the brutality of [British] Imperialism. The British Empire for all of its accomplishments was rather cruel. It's a bit of a counter-weight to RTD's adoration for the Queens of England:

Here are a couple of general articles on the topic:

i agree it made it sound more harsh
            just also more rediculous
that a creature would have it's brain cut off
and still function with a translator
as opposed to something more believable but
still cruel enough to get the point across without
            becoming unbelievable.

            thanks for the articles...
i didn't know those specific stories
            but always assumed the "empire"
wasted life on a grand scale.

The brain thing was sort of explained away in that sci-fi jargon kinda way that they do. The portion of their brain that was removed was the hindbrain. Their forebrain (in their head) was intact. On top of that, there was a third "master/father" brain. Basically, their higher functioning ability was removed. Or something like that.

Yeah you are totally right about that....
                hind brain...
I still think it would have been better if the translater was just around it
as opposed to cutting it off
but I guess the metaphor of cutting off the brain is more literal when you can have two other
sci fi brains for back up.
                cheers

I should point out that as I was watching the opening of this episode last night, my flat-mate and his significant other (who do not watch Doctor Who) happened to wander in the room and were completely enrapt into the story, the characters, and the dialogue-- and these are intelligent folk.

This Keith Temple has some potential as a writer. Despite the fact that I did not avoid spoilers, he still slipped in a few surprises and the supporting characters were well formed.

I think it was funny that it aired (in the UK at least) on the first night of Passover.

So as for that other thread which I can't find that discussed how the Doctor used to be a revolutionary and now is more of an authority suck-up, I guess his true colors shine through now and again.

Kudos to Donna for exhibiting excellent reasoning skills. I guess she's been eating the chips in the TARDIS.
