Turn Left **Spoilers**

Oh...My...God.

What a great episode. I had totally forgotten about Bad Wolf and wasn't expecting them to be the two words. But it definitely makes perfect sense. Pretty predictable, what would happen to alternative Donna, but it was very interesting to see what would happen if there was no Doctor. Everyone else who he has touched (or would have touched) in some way, went the extra mile and ended up dying to try to save the world. Imagine the rest of the universe, what happens there.

Anyone else notice that the home they were sharing (at least the entrance way) with the Italian(?) family, was the same one that was used in Last of the Time Lords where Martha was hiding and talked about the Doctor? Labour camps? When the grandfather said something like "here we go again", was he referring to WW II? Or is there a similar incident in British history I am unaware of? I thought it was quite believable, the progression of events and the establishment of the homes and then the expulsion of immigrants. I can see that happening in such extraordinary circumstances.

There does seem to be something about Donna huh? River said something about her, or just implied it by her "you're Donna" look. And her "specialness" was enhanced by todays episode when Rose said something about her having a 'field' around her since she was born. Donna is special. I quiet like Donna...but will she be back next time?

Next week...Sarah Jane, Captain Jack and left over crew, Martha and Rose...good Gods! Refresh my memory...there is no next Season/Series right? They will do some miniseries type thing, but nothing until 2010. So they are probably doing a bit of a going away thing.

I saw a bunch of the episodes with references to Bad Wolf, but I'm not sure I've ever seen the whole explanation for it.

Is it because I've missed an episode, have forgotten the explanation due to baby-induced sleep deprivation, or because we haven't seen the explanation for the whole "Bad Wolf" thing?

Does anyone know what "Bad Wolf" is?

I just watched it. I really enjoyed it, though I was bothered by some of the character development. Seemed to happen all too fast, but they only had 45 minutes. Either way, Sufficiently creepy...especially after just seeing The Happening.

Next week looks....um...not sure the word. At least we will finally figure out what is on Donna's back.

just a peaceful acceptance and gratitude
for such a wonderous creation as the Doctor...

one highlight of course the amazing multiple
worth the price of admission alone.

This two parter had lots of great ideas .... (some like the idea that books have a kind of spirit that talks to you and plants have a kind of spirit that can talk to you - that didn't get played out enough) .... And it also had some weaknesses like the whole moving shadows sneaking up on you like the crying angel statues.... been there done that way to recently...
but overall as noted more and more in other threads... it got to a point where if you are able to suspend your disbelief and go for the ride ... you just start getting all giddy. Just joyously excited and enthused and happy. Nothing in the whole world of ideas alone would ever be enough without the emotional excitement to balance it. The doctor is ideas and feelings.
cheers

Well then...aside from some kinda BS explanations for the subwave network, and a few other things, I rather enjoyed myself. So, will the Doctor regenerate into someone new? David has signed on for next season/series, so how would he come back? Will he revert back to the 9th Doctor? Is there still something on Donna's back?

And what was up with the crappy graphics? The scene when the planets popped up and you saw the TARDIS floating in the Medusa Cascade...it looked kinda hokey...It reminded me of the early days of Doctor Who....and what about the "TO BE CONTINUED" thing at the end?

I'm not complaining, I really liked it. I am quite excited for next week.

What Would Douglas Adams Do?

Classic Who VS. Modern Who

Cardboard, spackle, latex and paint VS. CGI

If Adams had been given access to CGI when he was writing Who, would he have used it, or remained faithful to the old clapboard monsters of the past?

I think I have a pretty good idea, having read his musings on the subject of technology, but I want to throw this out for general opinion.

I wasn't sure that I was going to like this one, as I found the previous Slitheen adventure to be the weakest in the series thusfar... but I have to admit that I really enjoyed not only the overall story, but the almost constant comedic banter. The relationship emerging between the Doctor and Captain Jack is fun and I really liked how the tension erupted between Rose and Mickey. Margaret's attmept to kill the Doctor while they had dinner was priceless. I also really liked the moment when the 'Bad Wolf' references were finally acknoledged... and then dismissed. I can't wait until next week!

Ha ha! What a fantastic episode!!

I knew that it was going to be a good one from the moment Donna started up with her botched jazz era British colloquialisms. The reaction that both the Doctor and Donna had when meeting Agatha Christie just cemented it.

The music that punctuated the scene where the Doctor was poisoned was insanely brilliant, and the way that the episode slowly transitioned from lighthearted and comical, to serious and sober was well-paced.

My only complaint is the silly little relationship that they had to toss in between Roger Curbishley and Davenport, the butler. No point to that at all.

It's official: MOFFAT TO REPLACE DAVIES

Scriptwriter Steven Moffat was today named lead writer and executive producer on hit BBC1 drama Doctor Who.

Moffat, who has written a number of episodes of the show - including the acclaimed Blink episode which won him the Bafta writer award at this year's TV awards - will replace Russell T Davies.

Davies, the key creative figure behind the Doctor Who revival in 2005, stands down next year.

The appointment makes Moffat Doctor Who's show runner - the key creative force behind the programme - on the fifth series, which will be broadcast on BBC1 in 2010.

As well as Blink, his previous work on Doctor Who includes The Girl in the Fireplace for Series Two, which earned him his second Hugo Award. His first was for the Series One two-parter The Empty Child

Davies said: "It's been a delight and an honour working with Steven, and I can't wait to see where his extraordinary imagination takes the Doctor. Best of all, I get to be a viewer again, watching on a Saturday night!"

Davies and Julie Gardner, the BBC Wales head of drama, who have worked on the fourth series of Doctor Who and are working on three specials for broadcast in 2009.

In 2009 BBC Wales, which makes Doctor Who, will also have a new head of drama when producer Piers Wenger takes over from Julie Gardner.

I'm watching the last three episodes of Series/Season 3 again and just caught a little reference I missed the first time.

Just be fore the President is about to speak on the Valiant, The Master and his wife are sitting down at the long table and The Master offers her a bag of goodies and asks, "Care for a Jelly Baby?"

So awesome. Just thought I would throw that out there.

Time Crash

OK ... am I just completely behind here? I just watched Time Crash, and either (a) no one else has seen it, (b) I missed all the discussion, or (c) no one is appreciating one of the coolest things in DW in years!

David Tennant and Peter Davison together for a seven-and-a-half minute mini-ep?! It was brilliant!

The dialogue was SO snappy! So many fantastic little one-liners. I was smiling the entire time:

The gems:

Tennant: "Oh! There it goes ... the "frowny face"; I remember that one!"

- - - - -

Tennant: "Look at you! The hat, the coat, the crickety-cricket stuff, the ... stick of celery ... yeah. Brave choice the celery, but fair play to you, not a lot of men can pull off decorative vegetables."

- - - - -

Davison: "What've you done to my TARDIS?! You've changed the desktop theme, haven't you!?"

- - - - -

Tennant: "Oh! And out they come ... the "brainy specks"! "

- - - - -

Davison: "Oh no ... you're ... a FAN!"

- - - - -

both: "Wibbly-woobly, timey-whimey"

- - - - -

Tennant: "Oh, [the Master] just showed up again. Same as ever."
Davison: "Oh no. Really? Does he still have that rubbish beard?"
Tennant: "No. No beard this time. Well ... a WIFE."

- - - - -

And after all the funny was said and done, there was an honestly poignant conclusion which tipped the hat to Davison as the first of the "modern" Doctors.

I absolutely loved it.

Last night i was working at a clients place and they had the TV on and ABC ran ad for Life on Mar.... Yes that right they are or have re-made the whole show for the US and none of the British actors will show up in this version.

If this keeps up some is going to steal The Doctor or at best Try to ... they will kill it if they do...

The Four Doctors

Over the years there have been three ensemble episodes: "The Three Doctors" in '72, "The Five Doctors" in '83, and "The Two Doctors" in '85. (And last year's "Time Crash" if you want to count it.)

If there was to be another ensemble ep., say ... "The FOUR Doctors", who would be your four? (Take into account that the actors have aged as well, so you might have to pull a Richard Hurndall trick.)

Include companions if you wish, and I figure that Tennant is implied, yes?

Things I liked
Geni (or is it Jenny) as a character was fun not slow and how to say it ... nimble ;)
Sets love the good old running down corridors
New alien (blub blub blub)

Things I didn't like
the numerous and glaring plot holes such as:
- if only 7 days have passed how come there were old people if they all start off around 20
- where did the drones go
- who started the dna regeneration who's stock was used?
- if they started off in peaceful coexistence how did the get to a clone war in 7 days or so.

I'm watching some of the classic episodes. Right now I have 'The Face of Evil' on. I forgot how much I loved this series.

Something else I found interesting are the striking distances between the classic and the new. The new is far more complex, though the classic is still quite entertaining.

I was reminded of a comment someone said about the (new) Doctors continuing comments about guns and such. In the Face of Evil, there have been a lot of comments about violence and the Doctors abhorrence towards it. It does seem a bit obvious...though, at the same time, he's holding a crossbow.

Planet Of The Ood Eps 3 spoiler....

Ok first i want to get the jokes out of the way.. now if you have tonights or as of now last nights eps by torrent ot you recored it.. search the tape/dvd/media file for shot of the Ood's head them look at the shot and look for clear shot from the back got it? Eeww.... ok I will say no more....Stop laughing now and movie on...

I need to go back now and see the eps that induced us the Ood I think in the time line it was before this event.. IF so RTD has abit of problem...but them man can't even get his own time line and stories right that would be bad.

I think the store was good it carried on with Donna keeping the doctor from being All that and she is till in wonder of her adventure.

I like the opening shots of the planet.. Nice CG I think the Ship that comes in over head look a bit like a well known ship of Sci-Fi in the UK and US...look at it and Think about it for bit...

Bad the good and the call of cthulhu

What can i say but this was a very good and deep eps and it was good to see a more of a back great story to the Ood even if they look like bunch of cthulhus out of H.P. Lovecraft or a call of cthulhu game(I know the guy who made the game he loves the Ood)

I like to have seen more of where they lived as the plant is a bit cold looking and I would thing more of an underground dwelling for them.

The bad guy here is somewhat of an ass but another greedy sod I think not much to write about but it was good to see what happens to him.

Ok well I don't want to say more I leave all to you guys and I'll come back as the post goes .. Please go easy on the site gages and jokes... WE all know by now that RTD must have a say on how the Ood looked like (if you looked as I said at the start) its bad very bad. we all caught it hear and it was laugh and pun fest for a bit...

Ok your turn all..

CC ..

the Next week Teaser is great ....Martha is Back and So is U.N.I.T. and a very good classic bad guy...

new Blake's 7 in the works?

There has been so much talk about some new Blake's 7 project for years, so maybe this is just more chatter. I would love to see a new Blake's 7 show if they can do it right and maintain the bleakness and black humor that made the original so awesome.
George Orwell Was Right: Spy Cameras See Britons' Every Move

By Nick Allen

Dec. 22 (Bloomberg) -- It's Saturday night in Middlesbrough, England,
and drunken university students are celebrating the start of the
school year, known as Freshers' Week.

One picks up a traffic cone and runs down the street. Suddenly, a
disembodied voice booms out from above:

``You in the black jacket! Yes, you! Put it back!'' The confused
student obeys as his friends look bewildered.

``People are shocked when they hear the cameras talk, but when they
see everyone else looking at them, they feel a twinge of conscience
and comply,'' said Mike Clark, a spokesman for Middlesbrough Council
who recounted the incident. The city has placed speakers in its
cameras, allowing operators to chastise miscreants who drop coffee
cups, ride bicycles too fast or fight outside bars.

Almost 70 years after George Orwell created the all-seeing dictator
Big Brother in the novel ``1984,'' Britons are being watched as never
before. About 4.2 million spy cameras film each citizen 300 times a
day, and police have built the world's largest DNA database. Prime
Minister Tony Blair said all Britons should carry biometric
identification cards to help fight the war on terror.

``Nowhere else in the free world is this happening,'' said Helena
Kennedy, a human rights lawyer who also is a member of the House of
Lords, the upper house of Parliament. ``The American public would
find such inroads into civil liberties wholly unacceptable.''

During the past decade, the government has spent 500 million pounds
($1 billion) on spy cameras and now has one for every 14 citizens,
according to a September report prepared for Information Commissioner
Richard Thomas by the Surveillance Studies Network, a panel of U.K.
academics.

Who's In Charge?

At a single road junction in the London borough of Hammersmith, there
are 29 cameras run by police, government, private companies and
transport agencies. Police officers are even trying out video cameras
mounted on their heads.

``We've got to stand back and see where technology is taking us,''
said Thomas, whose job is to protect people's privacy. ``Humans must
dictate our future, not machines.''

Blair said citizens have to sacrifice some freedoms to fight
terrorism, illegal immigration and identity fraud.

``We have a modern world that we are living in, with new and
different types of crime,'' Blair said Nov. 6 at a press conference
in London. ``If we don't use technology in order to combat it, then
we won't be fighting crime effectively.''

Constant Monitoring

In the bowels of New Scotland Yard, the headquarters of the London
police force, a windowless room contains a giant bank of TV screens
where the city is monitored around the clock. At the touch of a
button, officers can focus on any neighborhood and zoom in on
people's faces.

Police hunting the killer of five prostitutes in Suffolk were able to
gather 10,000 hours of footage from in and around Ipswich.

By 2016, there will be cameras using facial recognition technology
embedded in lampposts, according to the Surveillance Studies report.
Unmanned spy planes will monitor the movements of citizens, while
criminals and the elderly will be implanted with microchips to track
their movements, the report says.

``The level of surveillance in this country should shock people,''
said David Murakami Wood, a lecturer at the University of Newcastle
who headed the study. ``It is infiltrating everything we do.''

Wood is also concerned about the U.K.'s growing DNA database. The
files contain the genetic codes of more than 3.8 million people, or
5.2 percent of the population. By comparison, the U.S. has the DNA
records of 0.5 percent of its residents.

DNA matches helped solve 45,000 crimes in the U.K. last year,
including 422 murders, 645 rapes and 9,000 burglaries, according to
the Home Office. But the database isn't foolproof.

Burglar Who Wasn't

Police who knocked on Raymond Easton's door in Swindon, England, in
1999 were certain he had committed burglary at a house 200 miles (300
kilometers) away. DNA found at the scene was a 37 million-to-1 match
with Easton's sample, which had been taken three years earlier.

Easton, a former construction worker, had Parkinson's disease and
could barely dress himself. He was still charged. Further tests
proved he had never been to Bolton, where the burglary occurred,
according to the Greater Manchester police.

``Britain's DNA database is spiraling out of control,'' said Helen
Wallace, deputy director of GeneWatch U.K., which campaigns for
responsible use of genetic science. ``It could allow an unprecedented
level of government surveillance.''

Other government plans include loading the confidential medical
records of 50 million patients in the state-run health system onto a
central database without their consent.

Most controversial of all are Blair's biometric ID cards linked to a
national register holding every citizen's fingerprints, iris or face
scan. Starting in 2010, anyone renewing or applying for a passport
will have to get one.

``Desperate for some sort of legacy, the prime minister has nothing
to offer but Blair's Big Brother Britain,'' said Phil Booth, national
coordinator of the anti-ID card group NO2ID.
his relationship to captain jack makes it seem like a great idea to myself.
the doctor is obviously not homophobic.

Working on Scarf

sorry i killed my old post and re-posted with the links re-posted as i could not get them to work for the images

Well last time I talked about the SCARF. My wife had started to re-do a lot of it and it is still as of now in the works but she has gotten a bit more done and is now working the down side of the Scarf.

She has had some medical problems that lead to surgery to her left knee and she is still dealing with pain in both so she was out of it for bit, By X-mas time she had to get some request done from our daughter's and she took two new Knitting classis one for socks and the for cable stitch.

She got back to the DW scarf and has done well and she even took time out to make sure I had a new scarf for a convention that she had hope to have had the DW scarf done by .It is a variation of the DW scarf and the color I help pick out as well as set the pattern .

We took pics yesterday at The Yarn shop in Elk Grove CA it a great place.

Ok well here are the links to the pictures enjoy and yes the colors look abit off but the DW tan came out looking a bit white.

Oh the new scarf is over 13to 14 feet long and i will post the pattern soon or to those wanting it

enjoy the pics

... with a nice dollop of ooey-gooey luuuuuuv on top.

and a "cherry" subplot.

aw.

ooh! and time paradoxes! "history" -- changing! yeah, uh, explain that to me again ...

and look, it just keeps on going -- next ep looks like a doozy huh??

that whole "time streams" thing is such a load of fucking wack. if something's happened, it's happened. you can't go back to the past and change it. obviously what we saw in this ep happened, and the doctor "remembered" it wrong.

like i said, time travel is such a load of wack, the more in the background it's left, the better.

oh, and did i mention the great ooey gooey ...

let's all hold hands gang! time hug!!

Sci-fi Channel edting Doctor Who EPs?(small soiler for some)

I was just watching the current Eps (eps 1 for the US here) and I just noted some thing as scene was cut short as there was some line with Donna and the cab driver that come to pick up the one lady that get Aposed....

Why cut a small line like that? it was part of how we see Donna deal with what she just saw... I wonder what more they have edited ?

No Spoilers

All I can say on this eps is as the Doctor would put it is .... WHAT!!! WHAT!!
(and those who have seen this eps know what I mean)

I wish I could stream this too all who have to wait till the 18th or DVD's to see it.
This is a great start to this season.. The Doctor and Donna are off on a great start.

Oh and for those who can get Torrents look for this funny Skit

Doctor.Who.2008.Skit.Partners.in.Crime.WS.XviD.avi

I think some at the BBC did it as it very slick looking and well cut of clips.
I'll see if some one has posted it to You-Tube yet

CC

4.2 Fires of Pompeii

Much better than last week. This was more like classic Dr Who. And also a bit like Babylon 5. (Thank god RTD has finally figured out how to story arcs!)

"She is returning."

Obviously a reference to R***.

"There is something on your back!"

See "Planet of the Spiders", although it could just be a red herring for the fans. Something is definitely "not quite right" about Donna... note the look the Doctor gave her in the previous episode when she told him she felt cold inside the TARDIS. I suspect we'll get more hints as the series goes on.

Lots of continuity references in this story, including the TARDIS translation circuits, the destruction of Gallifrey, great fire of london, Barcelona.

The story had a great twist when it was revealed who caused the volcano to erupt and killed the people of Pompeii.

I wonder though if the Doctor changed history, as hinted by the last scene.

Xmas Special 2007

hi, i'm GORdon. i didn't even remember that there would be an xmas special this year, until a friend surprised me with the download yesterday.

hi, i'm Russell T Davies. Here's my formula for writing Doctor Who:

1. a facile, simplistic playing with audience expectations. here's an ugly little alien critter -- but oh! he's not the baddie! it's the guy who runs the cruise lines! and oh! it wasn't the real titanic, but a titanic clone! running into the tardis was a red herring! cuz yeah, shit breaks into the tardis all the time -- which leads to the next point --

2. disregard established continuity regarding **how things work** the tardis is impregnable. nothing has ever penetrated it. who cares, if it makes a spectacular teaser for the next ep, but one which does not figure into the plot at all! ain't i clever??

3. oh, but do borrow superficial bits from the past. robots of death, anyone?

4. in that vein, treat douglas adams's sci-fi silliness like it's canonical. and again, we're talking about the surface bits, not the underlying philosophical viewpoint.

5. make really leaden, obvious "commentary" (using the term loosely -- again, surface!) regarding people of disenfranchised groups, usually -- surprise, again! -- gays. gays and the lower class. oh, and race -- gotta throw an inter-racial coupling in there, always. gee, maybe one day i'll actually have something substantive to say on this subject, instead of using it as just another shiny bauble. which leads to --

6. ultimately show reverence for power and prestige, such as royalty. "i'm the doctor, i'm a time LORD ..." Kylie Minogue is a character who gets to play straight, because she is beautiful. the two underclass lottery winners are played for laughs, because they are fat and not particularly attractive. wow, i just love beautiful people, and parties. and making money. which leads to the next point --

7. pander to the american market. spectacular effects, explosions -- and oh! lots of kissing! see the doctor kiss rose. see the doctor kiss martha (ooh! and i get to be inter-racial again!) see the doctor kiss kylie. see the doctor kiss donna -- over and over. aren't these all things we loved about the old Doctor Who?

yes, facile, simplistic plots (my friend guessed that the little gay i mean cyborg guy was gonna die, that one of the marrieds would bite it, and that kylie would die), big spectacle, lots of S E X, the doctor as an establishment figure who did not want to run away from his fellow Lords but misses them like fuck --

don't you just love what i've done with Doctor Who??

and if you don't, fuck off! it's a hit! and that's all that matters to a great man like me!

I love reading all the threads and sometimes they get me confused because of the different times we all see the Doctor. I live in South San Francisco, California, so I get the Doctor on BBC America and SciFi which is behind the European times. (I"m so jealous that you guys are so closer to the Doctor then I am. Can I tempt you with George Clooney new movie?) Just wondering where fans are living?

Torchwood 2 finale (big spoilers)

Well, it's good they finally explained why there were some differences between Toshiko Sato in Torchwood and "Dr" Sato in Aliens of London (Owen Harper was still new on the job and she had to fill in for him because he had a hangover)...

But Damn, it really sucks they killed both of those characters off. I was just thinking earlier in the season how these were the two best characters in the show, and I wouldn't have minded if something happened to Jack and Gwen and those two ended up replacing them as the leads. And this pretty much precludes her from showing up in Doctor Who again in the future too. :-(

Not sure if it's true, but I thought I read a rumour somewhere that the actor who played Gray (Jack's brother) will be showing up later in this series of Doctor Who. Of course we know Jack will be showing up again, along with all the other former companions.

Can't say I'm too thrilled about Owen's likely replacement as Torchwood's medical expert...

The file I found the new theme under is "Murray Gold - 2008 Theme" and it is very clean and you can hear right off they put some work into bumping up the the opening this year.

Season 30, or 45?

Should this new season (known as series 4) be considered season 30 or season 45? The series began almost 45 years ago in 1963, and although it was off the air for a long time there were officially licensed books of ongoing new adventures that followed on where the show left off and tied in to where it picked up again.

Was Eccleston REALLY the Ninth Doctor or the Tenth?

According to BBC's official stance, he was the ninth. But there was a fan film in between McGann and Eccleston. While the BBC may not recognize it, some of the fans certainly have. A peaceful resolve might be to call this the lost story of the eighth regeneration Doctor.

just went to the bbc site today, found these:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/news/cult/news/drwho/2008/03/23/53794.shtml

coincidentally i was in borders yesterday and thumbed through a copy of DW magazine. in it there was a readers poll of favorite episodes. Several eps from City of Death came out on top, as well as the Deadly Assassin and Robots of Death.

what could illustrate better than this that RTD just (( does not get it )) ??

monsters monsters monsters -- literally, times three. and all three of them, collective, group-mind based. oh, the horror of the dehumanizing crowd!

fans love witty and dark and character driven stories, all from the baker era, specifically the williams-adams-baker and hinchcliffe-holmes-baker eras, and RTD is stuck back in the OOOH!! SCARY!!! Troughton days.

sure, RTD, dehumanizing absorption into a collective is a scary bugaboo, no argument there, but do we really need it illustrated three times over in one season???

i'd like to enlist my own deadly assassin ....

Pertwee era vs. new series companions

It occurs to me there's a parallel between the companions of the Pertwee years and the new series. Rose was similar to Jo Grant... blonde, ditzy, and for some inexplicable reason the Doctor fell in love with her. Martha was like Liz Shaw... supposed to be a lot more brainy, but the writers didn't know how to handle her so they dropped the ball. Donna could be the next Sarah Jane... annoying at first, but people will grow to love her and her chemistry with the Doctor.

I thought season 4 was supposed to start airing tomorrow (isn't that the Titanic episode?), but all I see is Catherine Tate's episode, and season 3, ep.1. And can someone tell me what the new Christmas episode is that everyone keeps talking about? Are the Christmas ep. and the Titanic ep. the same ep.?

OK so I liked it. I really wished that one stock broker guy would have died but we KNEW that wasn't gonna happen.

Poor Kylie first Breast Cancer now being atomized. She just can't catch a break lol.

I was VERY pleased it wasn't the original titanic as I think that would have been a bit weak. The bit with the queen waving in the sky and thanking the doctor was a bit odd as don't the royalty have a long standing thing with him? Based on the Tooth and Claw episode?
Oh well I enjoyed it.

BTW could they have fitted a few more cameos in please, and why does the name Foon sound familiar?

I have to say I am not the most knowlegable Doctor Who Fan. I saw the 1996 film when I was ten and forgot about the show until half way through the first season of the new show. I fell in love with it. I watched the five doctors on youtube and what i thought was the first episode "An Unearthly Child" but i just got 'the begining' dvd set. i had no idea that it was filmed and never aired on tv. the filmed a new verson that aired in 1963. I am so happy I found that out.

Billie Piper's comin' back as Ms. Rose Tyler! No idea for how long or in what capacity, but I am very happy with this. Yes, I know I've complained they should stop retreading old stories/themes/dialogue/aliens, but I hafta say, I really liked redoubtable Rose.

I am a little bit behind in my Dr Who watching, and have been watching the new series reruns on BBC America. they started with Series 1 about 6 months ago and now they are nearing the end of Series 2. I just watched "Love and Mosters" two weeks ago, and myself and my wife really enjoyed the episode. But I am seeing a lot of disgruntlement online about it.
I'm a Whovian trying to get a laptop! HELP ME OUT!! Film Contest (has Dinosaur in it!!)

I am a broadcasting/film student trying desperately to get the gear I need to make some more movies!! PLEASE HELP!!
What follows are instructions from my producer on What/Who/How/Why/When/Where, because I am better at MAKING than PROMOTING.
Seriously, If I can't have a sonic screwdriver, can you at least help me get a decent laptop??? PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE IN THE NAME OF ALL THINGS GALLIFRAYAN!!!

THANKS FOR THE TIME AND PATIENCE!!

Hello you guys!

I have been promoting our film madly - I've created
fliers to post, little 'cards' to hand out to people,
and I've sent out batches of emails in groups (I still
have lots more to send out!).

The only way we are going to win is if we ALL promote
like MAD! Below I have copied the email I sent out to
the Whaddya group - use it or change it to suit your
needs. I've attached the flier and 'cards' - you can
change them or use them as is. Please tell EVERYONE
YOU KNOW! Make sure they rate it!!! There are many
problems with the mac site - the main ones that affect
us are
1. You can't search by our movie name - it doesn't
work.
2. Using the email to a friend function on our page
sends a link that doesn't work (or it didn't last time
I checked).
3. The only thing that seems to work is searching by
our team name -
whaddyagonnadoaboutit

Thanks!

Whaddya Gonna Do About It? team entered the
Insomnia Film Festival
Turn 24 hours into a
3-minute masterpiece

The list of elements were given out at 9am EST on
October 13th, we shot at 3 locations, our visual
effects master Andrew Coggeshall was importing and
working while we set up for the next shots. I was
importing footage into Final Cut by 6pm. By 2am I had
picture-lock and I handed off to John Madden for
scoring. Dana Jae proved to be the marathan champion
by mixing and compressing at the wee hours of the
morning to get it uploaded by 9am EST on October 14th.

It was a fantastic learning experience - and we ended
up with a pretty cool little movie. AND WE NEED YOUR
HELP TO WIN!!! There were 3000 entries this year, so
competition will be tough. You can help by watching
and rating movies - the 25 entries with the highest
rating on November 9 at 12:00 a.m. EST will be
screened by industry professionals, including Barry
Sonnenfeld, James Mangold, and Nora Ephron. The
biggest hit with either the public or the pros, each
member of the team will receive a MacBook Pro with
Final Cut Studio 2, Logic Studio, and Shake! THIS
PRIZE WILL HELP US MAKE MORE MOVIES!

So... I encourage you to check it out! Please tell
all of your friends & family, too! You have to create
a Mac ID - if you have ever ordered from Mac or
iTunes, you already have one. You will also need
Quicktime Player - available for free download at Mac.

Whaddya Gonna Do About It? Productions presents...
8 3/4
Please watch and rate it by going to
http://edcommunity. apple.com/ insomnia_ fall07/
in the search field enter our team name:
whaddyagonnadoaboutit
8 and 3/4 will come up, click to watch

I would love to hear your comments! Thanks!

SJA: Revenge of the Slitheen

Has anyone seen the Sarah Jane Adventures yet?

Elisabeth Sladen is great as SJS, but after seeing "Revenge of the Slitheen", I am not too impressed with the rest of the program.

The Slitheen return with all the farting, but none of the political satire of "Aliens of London/World War III" or the ethical drama of "Boomtown." There's a lot here for kids but little for adult viewers, beyond what looked like an homage to John Lithgow's performance in "The Adventures of Buckaroo Bonzai Across the Eighth Dimenstion."

Maria and Luke are fine as youthful sidekicks, but the Clyde character makes no sense, because he's too obsessed with being cool to tag along with the weird kids long enough to even find out that they help some strange middle aged woman fight alien invaders on a weekly basis. Oh yes, we need the good-looking cool kid archtype in any show about teenagers.

Personally, I rather see a Sarah Jane/Captain Jack team-up so we can lose Ianto and Owen.

It wasn't an instance classic like Human Nature/Family of Blood or Blink but it it was a good adventure with no obvious plot holes, or a glaring dei ex machinae. For the first time in quite some time I was not let down at the end of an RTD-penned episode

The plot revelation had been predicted by many well in advance (and I had hoped it would not be so obvious) but it was done so well with excellent foreshadowing and continuity on the writing end and excellent direction and acting on the production end. The use of the fob-watch put a visceral grin on my face.

I also liked the explanation as to why humans existed even at the end of time.

Again, proof that one can make good Doctor Who in the 21st century without a large number of special effects shots.

It says that a new season of the show begins on Saturday, Sep. 18th at 10PM, and they're showing David Tenant in their advert, so I'm assuming he's going to be the first episode of the new season, but I could be wrong.

Well, I suppose this is good news that there definitely will be a fifth series, possibly with a new Doctor and/or production team.

Which Who Are You?

Endlessly have we asked which Doctor is our favorite. More interesting to me is with which Doctor you most identify, i.e., which are you most like? For example, while I was never a fan of #6, I share a lot of his impatience with stupidity (and his gut), without the crotchetiness of #1, with a bit of the know-it-all-plus-sense-of-justice aspects of #4.

I'm sure you all know this, but Catherine Tate is back _as Donna_. I'd previously hoped (against all hope?) that she would come back as someone else, but it's not to be. Maybe she'll have evolved a little since we last met. She did say she wanted to 'learn stuff' now that she wasn't going off to marital (or mandibular) bliss.

On the upside, we get more Ood!

Oh well. The Key to Time box set is due out soon:

San Diego Comic Con

Read this yesterday:

BBC America is sponsoring a special Torchwood event at the San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday, July 26. The event will feature guest appearances and clips. Says their website:

2:15-3:15 BBC America: Torchwood - Writer Russell T. Davies (Doctor Who) has created a spectacular spin-off TV series from Doctor Who with Torchwood, about a rogue team of investigators who use scavenged alien technology to solve present day crime - both alien and human. Catch an extended clip of the new series and a panel discussion with actors John Barrowman (Captain Jack Harkness); Eve Myles (Gwen Cooper); series writer Chris Chibnall; and executive producer Julie Gardner. TV Guide's West Coast Bureau Chief Craig Tomashoff moderates. Room 6A

However, it has been confirmed by the webmaster of his official site that John Barrowman will not be in attendance, due to work commitments in the UK.

So, anyone going?

I just talk to my wife and she is going to Knit me a tom Baker multi-color style Scarf and had gotten the yarn yesterday to start on it.
we're looking at the info online but want to make it some where during the 12th to 17th season but i noted the notes seem to point out the that the 17th season scarf was cut and pasted(re-knited) together and not just one new scarf. but would not that mean their were 2 scarfs to put together? anyway she took the patterns on www.doctorwhoscarf.com and is going to start soon.

Joy !!!

Doctor Who spin-off 'cancelled'

lans for a Doctor Who spin-off show starring Billie Piper were scrapped at the last minute, series producer Russell T Davies has revealed.

"It was actually commissioned by the controller of BBC One and budgeted," the writer told Doctor Who Magazine.

Davies later decided the programme, Rose Tyler: Earth Defence, was "a spin-off too far" and called it off.

Piper, 23, left Doctor Who earlier this year. She will be replaced by Freema Agyeman, 27, in the next series.

"We hadn't formally approached Billie," said Davies, "although we'd mentioned it to her."

Cold feet

"It was going to be fantastic. We'd have had a lovely budget and done brilliant things with it, maybe one Bank Holiday special a year."

However, the writer said he got cold feet while filming Piper's final appearance as Rose Tyler earlier this year.

"It spoils Doctor Who if we can see Rose... if we see as a concrete fact that her life continues to be as exciting without the Doctor," he said.

Davies added that the decision to abandon the programme cost him "a fortune".

A separate spin-off from the science fiction series is still going ahead, and will be shown on BBC Three this autumn.

Called Torchwood, it focuses on a squad of secret agents facing human and alien enemies, with actor John Barrowman reprising his role as time traveller Captain Jack.

The 13-part series will also be written by Davies, who acts as executive producer for the Doctor Who programmes.

Meanwhile, the third series of Doctor Who is currently being filmed in Wales.
Hopes for the Future

I thought I would start a thread for listing ideas for where you would like the show to go (This has been briefly discussed in other threads).

- Sometime leave Earth and not go to a space ship. (Even if it is an Earth-like setting like the forest of the Face of Evil or Planet of the Daleks.) [Countrycide (Torchwood) almost worked because it was outside of Cardiff or London, for once.]

- Visit a non-US/British/French country for once. China, Chad, Chile, Canada, Cambodia, anywhere else. (Feel free to cheat with location shots and CSO.)

- A Malcolm Hulke styled script like Colony in Space or the Silurians would be nice.

- Get rid of the pop-culture references.

Thoughts? Additions?

Y'all probably already knew this, but I just finished watching an episode of Coupling and saw that it's written by Steven Moffat. Nifty. :) Plus the episode ("Inferno") actually made me laugh out loud several times, which is a difficult feat.
